Started armwrestling |
| I have been armwrestling since I was 17. |
Weight |
| 165 lbs |
Toughest opponent |
| Probably Jerry Janning from Omaha Nebraska who used to pull around 150 -> 165 lbs. I had so many greuling matches with him that I lost count, no matter what position you got him in, it was a fight to the death. |
Toughest match |
| 11 Minutes with Bert Whitfield of Atlanta Georgia. It was in Chicago at a World Wristwrestling championship. Bert is a great competitor and will never quit no matter what. He has been through many non-armwrestling related injuries that would retire many folks, but he just keeps on going. |
Merits |
| 35 time World champion. |
Best training advice |
| Do a mix of heavy weights and HIGH reps for endurance. You need power and endurance to win consistently. When you are injured lighten up and DON'T do anything that aggravates the injury (I know this is hard but I wish I would have learned this a little earlier in my career). |
Favourite armwrestler |
| This is a tough question to answer because there are so many great competitors out there. However, if I had to pick one it would be John Brzenk. I was friends with John when he was just getting started in the eighties. John never ran from anyone, he would look for the tournaments with the toughest competitors. At first he was losing to the really good guys, but soon after he started dominating. Today he dominates and is still amazing, just plain raw power! From someone as good as he is you might expect a cocky attitude, but you won't get that from John, he is just a nice guy, someone you like to see do well. |
Misc |
| I love competing in armwrestling and feel especially fortunate to have met so many great people. The people make this sport, somehow they are different from folks in other sports. Maybe it is because armwrestling isn't as big as football or baseball. I don't know why, but everyone has respect for everyone else and there is a feeling of camaraderie that I have never felt in any other sport. That is one thing I will always remember. I hope that never changes. |
